Equipment/Gear

Proper equipment for Masters swimming consists of a suit, goggles. Hand paddles, pull buoys and kick boards are all available at the pool. Swim caps are not required but may be needed to help keep hair out of your face during workouts. Fins are welcomed and some are available for each practice. You are always welcome to bring your own equipment as well.

Five seconds apart

Leave the wall 5 seconds after the swimmer ahead of you, please do not swim on anyone's feet. Besides being annoying, you can throw off the timing of the entire lane and drafting doesn't do your training any good. If you're catching the person in front of you, change the order at the start of the next set. Or leave 10 seconds apart, which is also a good idea for race-pace sprints when you have few people per lane.

The pool

The pool is 6 lanes, 25 yards. We use all of the lanes for each Master’s practice. You will typically find from 3 to 6 people per lane, and during busy times of the season can see more per lane.
