The Broomfield Police
Department Detention Center and Training Facility also houses the Broomfield
Police Department’s Training Division. The Training Division contains both
the Training Unit and the Emergency Management Unit. This consolidation of
services has resulted in the efficient training and dissemination of
knowledge to 146 Broomfield police officers and dozens of other agency
officers. The Training Division hosts many different training classes
and seminars for both internal training as well as for other agencies. The
Training Division has also been host to several of Colorado’s elite law
enforcement and institutional agencies furthering the Department’s goal of
playing a major role in Colorado’s law enforcement community. The Training
Division has worked with State organizations including the North-Metro Drug
Task Force, Rocky Mountain Institute of Traffic Safety and County Sheriffs
of Colorado (C.S.O.C.).
The Department's range is located southwest of the Detention Center and
Training Facility.
The Emergency Management Unit (EMU)
consolidated multiple government functions into one efficient operation.
The EMU’s mission is to implement a comprehensive emergency management
program consisting of preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery with
the intentions of producing a disaster-resistive community. The EMU started
the Multi-Agency Emergency Planning Committee (MAEP). This committee
created the All-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), designed to
research, plan for, and implement various strategies for a wide variety of
emergency situations. Participants include the North Metro Fire Rescue
District, Qwest Communications, Avista Hospital, as well as many others.
The EMU also created the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). This
committee is designed to gather and disseminate information from experts in
the fields of firefighting, health care, law enforcement, environmental
groups, community groups, and the media. This information is available free
of charge to any public or private organization and can be quickly accessed
in the event of an emergency.
