Curly Dock

Characteristics

Family: Buckwheat

Origin: Eurasia

Description:

  • Perennial with large tap root.  Reproduces by seed only.  Grows up to 5 feet tall, multi-stemmed.

  • 4-12 inch leaves are mostly basal with curly or wavy margins.

  • Flowers May-June, green in color.

  • Seed heads and stems and some leaves turn rust colored with maturation of seeds.

  • Individual seeds encased in a papery cover, that encourage dispersal by wind.

Locations: Ditches, pastures, cultivated fields, and roadsides.
