Corn chamomile, Anthemis arvensis

 Characteristics:

Family: Chamomile

Origin: Native to Europe

Description:

  • Non-native herbaceous annual that can attain heights of 28"

Stems:

  • Have soft straight hairs

Flowers:

  • White petals with yellow disk (1.4" wide)

  • Blooms first appear in mid Spring and continue through late Summer

  • Disk becomes cone-like as the bloom ages

Leaves:

  • Alternate, finely divided

Fruit:

  • Small (less than an eighth of an inch) tooth like in appearance with a crowned head

Additional Information:

Corn chamomile is listed as a Class B noxious weed in the State of Colorado.  It has been used for medicinal purposes as have many other varieties of Chamomile.  Corn chamomile is easily distinguished from other Chamomiles in that it lacks any sort of odor.  It is widely distributed throughout the U.S. and was introduced as a garden flower.
