Media Release February 17, 2010 Media Contact: Broomfield does well in state health rankings BROOMFIELD, COLO. — The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, released Colorado’s 2010 County Health Rankings on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Broomfield ranked fifth in Health Outcomes and twelfth in Health Factors out of 56 ranked Colorado counties. The report is intended to provide Colorado counties with a snapshot about the health of their community. The snapshots are created by compiling and analyzing 50 reports that include overall health outcomes and various health factors that influence individual health and the health of the community. According to Public Health Officer Jeff Stoll, Broomfield’s Public Health Division will use this report to further identify areas where efforts should be targeted to improve health outcomes and or health factors of Broomfield’s residents and community. In the study, health outcomes included morbidity and mortality rates. Morbidity measures quality of life, and mortality measures length of life. Health factors included, health behaviors such as tobacco use, prevalence of adult overweight and obesity, alcohol use and teen birth; clinical care such as access to health care and quality of care; social and economic factors such as education, employment, community safety and family and social support; and physical environment factors such as air quality and access to healthy foods.
