Media Release March 10, 2003 Media Contacts: Rosann Doran Broomfield offers radon test kits to residentsBroomfield Health and Human Services in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control Program has free radon test kits available to Broomfield residents. Anyone who owns a home and spends a large part of time in the lower level may want to have radon levels checked. Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless gas which can seep into homes from the soil. At elevated levels it increases the potential for lung cancer. According to John Pickle, Broomfield’s public health officer, nearly one out of 15 homes in the United States is estimated to have elevated radon levels. "Although many people are aware of the problems associated with radon, most are not aware of how easy and inexpensive it can be corrected. The first step is to get your home tested," Pickle said. Broomfield residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free radon testing. For information on eligibility to receive a free radon test kit, call Chirstine Hoefler, Environmental Health Specialist, at 720.887.2221. | ||||||||||
