We offer a fantastic summer camp program that makes sure your kids have fun all summer long! Camp Explorer and Extreme Explorer are 10 week Summer Camp programs based out of Aspen Creek K-8. Both programs are licensed by the state of Colorado and campers will receive the highest quality in summer programming available. Camp Explorer and Extreme Explorers begin the week of June 2nd and runs through August 8th.

2014 Camp Hours

7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Drop off - 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Pick Up - 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

*If you are planning on dropping off or picking up outside the designated times please be sure to make prior arrangements. Between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. campers will be engaged in planned programming or a
way on a field trip. 

Camp Explorer Options

Pre-Camp at BCC
Grades: K – 8th
Don’t  worry, we know the school is out for some of us before Camp Explorer and Extreme Explorer begin. For this week we will be meeting at the Broomfield Community Center, and we will go on trips every day. Campers will enjoy full day trips such as the Zoo, Museum, Bowling, and Skating. Space is limited for these trips so be sure to register as soon as possible!

Extension Camp at BCC
Grades: K – 8th
Broomfield Recreation is aware the not all school districts operate on the same schedule. To account for this, we will be offering an Extension Camp at the Broomfield Community Center for campers who do not go back to school until a later date. Just like our Pre-Camp, Extension camp will be attending a field trip every day. Trips from years past have included Pirates Cove, Boondocks, and Adventure Golf. You won’t want to miss this Grand Finale to wind down camp for 2014.

Explorers
(Current K - 3rd grades)
Quandary and Torreys
Grades: K – 3rd         Hours: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.         Location: Aspen Creek K-8
Our Quandary and Torreys age groups are for campers who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade(2013/2014 school year)! The Camp Explorer age groups have three field trips per week and time spent at Aspen Creek keeps kids engaged in different games, sports, activities, and theme days. Campers MUST be 6 years old by the first day of camp.
 
Extreme Explorers (Current 4th - 7th grades)
Crestone(4th–5th) and Pikes (6th–7th)
Grades: 4th – 7th         Hours: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.          Location: Aspen Creek K-8
Our Crestone group is making the jump from Camp Explorer to Extreme Explorer. This year the Crestone group is joining the Extreme Explorers on an additional trip each week. The Crestone and Pikes Peak groups are for campers who are currently enrolled in 4th–7th grade (2013/2014 school year)! The Extreme Explorer age groups have four field trips per week and time spent at Aspen Creek keeps kids engaged in different games, sports, activities, and theme days.

There will be a PowerPoint presentation about camp, staff introductions, and time for questions and answers. Please bring completed paperwork and questions to meeting. Parents May also register for extras and buy swim shirts at this time.

Camp Explorer Swim Lessons
These classes are only available only for Camp Explorer participants who can’Tuesday fit swim lessons into their schedule outside of camp and need to work on skills. Staff will bring registered participants from the Bay to the Broomfield Community Center for the lesson.

Camp Explorer Level I
Recommended age: 5–10 years; REQUIRED to be in Quandary or Torreys age group (Current grades: 1st–3rd)
Skills include, but not limited to: Confidence, water adjustment, front and back floats, flutter kick, beginning rhythmic breathing, and beginning front and back crawl strokes.

Camp Explorer BackStory Theatre
These class is only available only for Camp Explorer participants. Students can register for both classes and the fee will be discounted to $225.00 total.

Backstory Theatre Day Camp Performance Workshop: Jack and the Beanstalk
Students will strengthen fundamental acting skills, be coached on character development and stage movement, and work to build a cohesive cast through participating in theatre exercises and developing an improvised script of this classic fairy tale to perform for family and friends. Memorization of character lines will be required. Costumes will be provided. Performance at 6:30 p.m. on July 31 at the Broomfield Auditorium. Payable only by check or money order. Please make payable to BackStory Theatre.

Backstory Theatre Day Camp Technical Workshop
Students will learn the fundamentals of working on some of the technical aspects of theatre: set design, costuming, prop making, makeup, and publicity. Projects for the class will be based around technical needs for the Performance Workshop production of Jack and the Beanstalk. Please note: Students that are registered for the Tech Theatre Workshop and that are not in the Performance Workshop will be asked to assist backstage during the dress rehearsal and performance on July 31. Computer Explorers TechStars
The “best of summer technology” classes for you at camp! Different level of complexity for different age groups, ages 5–15 years, varying weekly activities and themes, 1-hour session for Quandary and Torreys on Mondays and  1½-hour session for Crestone and Pikes on Tuesdays.

Week 2 Extreme: Intro to Robotics-NXT
Get ready to take control! Week 3 -MineCraft

Week 5 -Video Game Animation 1
Dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. Add sound effects and music
to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab. You
can post your game online so that your friends, your parents and even your grandparents can play your video game! Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design!

Week 6 - Alternative Energy
Combine engineering and alternative energy! Build cars, cranes, or drawbridges from Lego° kits and operate them using alternative energy sources.  Students will start with electricity and use a multimeter to measure continuity, resistance and voltage. Adding concrete experiments with wind, water, fuel cells and solar panels produces a high-powered and high-energy course! Leave the fossils in the ground and go for green!

Week 7 -Catapults

Week 8 -Music Producer I
Hip Hop, Rock’n Roll, Ballads or Reggae. Write music in class and publish it online! We will have you creating music in a heartbeat. Week 9 - Green Screen Adventures-beginning 
Climb Mount Everest, swim the depths of the ocean, or battle dinosaurs!  Using a green screen and special photo-editing techniques, you will venture into real or imaginary locations and film the trip to share with friends. Don’Tuesday stay at home. Jump into a green screen and find yourself some fun!
