Family and Children's Services strives to provide services that are prevention-oriented, integrated, family-centered and research based. One main goal of the Division is family preservation to maintain children in their home with intact families.

Division Programs

Child Protection

The Family and Children's Division serves the community through a wide range of services and programs.  Ensuring the Safety, Permanency and Well-being for Broomfield's children is the prime goal of the Division.    This is accomplished through:

1.  Professional staff available 24/7 to respond to allegations of abuse and neglect,
2.  Assessment of referrals and reports of alleged child abuse and/or neglect,
3.  Investigation and ongoing management of cases,
4.  Provision of ongoing services to families and children, and,
5.  Child abuse awareness and prevention.

Foster Care, Kinship Care and Adoption

Broomfield Health and Human Services, Foster Care and Kinship Care program provides temporary placement for children who are removed from their home due to abuse and/or neglect.  The goal of the Health and Human Services staff is to strengthen the family of origin and safely return children to their homes.

Family Foster Family Homes and Kinship Foster Homes  (Click here for information)
are licensed through the State of Colorado and certified/administered through the City and County of Broomfield.  These families provide basic care, emotional support and protection of children.

Adoption is a legal process that finds permanent homes for children who are unable to live with their family of origin.

United Families

United Families provides support services to adopted children and their families.  The program includes a social support network, opportunities for financial assistance, and resource, referral and assistance.  For more information about the United Families program, contact the program coordinator at 720-887-2238.

Child Care

HHS participates in the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP) which provides financial child care assistance to eligible families.  Eligibility is based on household income, work status and/or participation in the Colorado Works Program.  The program coordinator also proides general child care assistance information and coordinates an annual child care summit for providers.  For more information about the child care program, contact the program coordinator at 720-887-2275.

Nurturing Parenting Program

 The Nurturing Parenting Program is a free, family-centered program designed to help parents develop their nurturing skills.  The program emphasizes the value of unconditional love within the family.  The course teaches participants about basic child development and the processes that occur as the child grows.  Parents are taught the importance of offering children choices and showing children that they are loved and respected.  The research-based program helps parents be more empathetic and more nurturing.  The program is a 16-week course for children 0-5 and their parents.  For more information about the program, contact 720-887-2201.

Restorative Justice (RJ)

The Restorative Justice Program is a set of values and principles that guide the programs, policies and practices of HHS.  It is a philosophy that harm to the community and others can be repaired through conferencing and agreements that prevent hurt and provide hope. 

Juvenile Municipal Probation (JUMP)

JUMP is a partnership between HHS and the Broomfield Municipal Court providing early intervention and direct services to juvenile offenders.  Services include anger management and decision making classes, substance abuse evaluations and substance abuse groups.  For more information about this program, contact the program coordinator at 720-887-2214.

Broomfield Substance Abuse Free Environment for Teens (B-SAFE)

Broomfield HHS offers substance education, awareness and pevention services as well as direct services to juveniles.  The program focuses on community outreach and involvement to decrease the umber of youth engaged in experimental and ongoing substance abuse activities.  A partnership between HHS and local high school (Legacy and Broomfield High Schools) provides direct service to students through treatment groups and one-to-one substance abuse counseling.  The BSAFE team also participates in the Community Health Information Network (CHIN).  For more information about CHIN or the substance abuse services, contact 720-887-2201.
