Public Health and Environment Division

Water Quality / Drinking Water Programs

Water is a vital resource to Broomfield residents and it is the goal of the Environmental Health Services team to work to preserve and protect the quality of this resource.  The division works to assist the Water Quality Control Division (WQCD) of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), the agency charged with implementing federal and State water quality control programs in Colorado.  The regulatory responsibilities of the WQCD include:

  • Implementation of use classification and numeric standards for surface water established by the Water Quality Control Commission (WQCC).

  • Issuance of discharge permits.

  • Enforcement of the Primary Drinking Water Regulations.

  • Administration of loans for the construction of publicly owned treatment works.

For more information on the WQCD, visit their website at http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/wq/index.html.

The Drinking Water Systems / Private Wells Program of the Broomfield Public Health and Environment Division provides the following services

  • Technical assistance for private wells

  • Education on how to take water samples

If you need a bacterial sample of your well, please contact Broomfield Wastewater.

Additional information on water quality and private wells can be found on the CDPHE website.
