What is the Cultural Council?

Overview

The City of Broomfield established the Broomfield Cultural Council by ordinance in August 2000. The Council is composed of seven at large citizens appointed by the City Council. The City Council has endeavored to appoint citizens with skills in a wide range of areas including, leadership, nonprofit management, fiscal affairs, consensus building, communication, the arts, cultural heritage and the sciences. Click here for a list of those citizens currently serving on the council.

The mandate of the Cultural Council is threefold:
1) to administer annual funds made available from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District to Broomfield as one of seven eligible counties in this funding district;
2) to administer Arts, Culture and Science funds made available by the city and county to support projects and programs benefiting the Broomfield community; and
3) to support implementation of the Creative Broomfield cultural master plan per direction of Council for the development and maintenance of scientific and cultural opportunities in the county. The master  plan contains a vision for the future of Broomfield's cultural environment including short-term and long-range strategies to realize that vision. The plan, drafted by the Cultural Council and adopted by the City Council in 2001, is intended as a tool to guide the community in sustaining and enhancing Broomfield's existing and newly established cultural resources.
