    For children newborn - 24 months and a caregiver Thursdays 9:15 - 9:35 a.m. or 10 - 10:20 a.m. An interactive story time focusing on the three "Rs " - Rhythm, Rhyme and Repetition. Enjoy age appropriate books, songs, rhymes, and baby sign language – all intended to promote language development and early literacy in a lively and fun atmosphere! Facts on brain development, early literacy and social emotional growth are shared throughout the program. Includes time for adults to socialize and babies to play. No registration required.

    Family Story Time All ages welcome Thursdays, 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. This program features participatory stories, songs and movement activities geared towards promoting early literacy and building a foundation for a love of books. Age appropriate activities are presented in three segments from younger to older in order to meet the developmental needs of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Transitions are built into the program so younger children can take a break if necessary. Join us for a wonderful shared experience for the whole family! No registration required

    Preschool Story Time For children 3 - 5 years who can sit on their own Tuesdays 10:30 -11 a.m. or Thursdays 1:30-2 p.m. Preschoolers enjoy stories and songs that develop early literacy skills and foster curiosity. This program is reserved for children ages three to five who can sit on their own and comfortably participate in a variety of literature based activities geared towards preparing children for learning to read. Asking children to attend without their caregivers helps to develop a sense of independence that will be needed as they start school. No registration required.

  7. Children - ARF! Afternoon Reading Fun (Read to a Dog)

    October 23, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Children's Library Story Room

    Afternoon Reading Fun (ARF!) is a program for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Children can come to the library to read to a therapy dog trained to listen quietly without correcting or judging. This is especially beneficial to students who are struggling with reading. ARF! is conducted in a relaxing environment where readers can build their confidence and fluency. Students read one-on-one with the therapy dog without being interrupted by parents, siblings and other adults. Sign-up begins at 3:45 at the Children’s Desk

  11. Taste of Teacherread

    October 25, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ 3 Community Park Road

    Saturday, October 25, 1-5 p.m. Taste of Teacheread is a FREE training for preschool teachers, childcare providers and parents. This one day training utilizes picture books for learning how to share books with children to increase comprehension and develop early literacy skills while sharing books with young ones. Gather ideas for how to read books aloud to children to make the experience fun and exciting. Learn the types of questions to ask children before and after reading the book. Discover extension activities for how to use the book further to develop early literacy skills (art activities, storytelling ideas, dramatic play ideas, and more). Teachers and care providers will earn four hours of training. Everyone will receive FREE BOOKS for attending the training. Held upstairs in the Eisenhower Room. Registration is required.
