Broomfield Building Codes

2009 International Codes Adoption

The City and County of Broomfield has adopted the 2009 International Codes ® effective March 7, 2011.  Building codes are updated every three years through an open consensus process to adapt to changing technology, current methods of construction, and in reaction to situations where codes may have failed to protect the public in the past.  Building inspection and plan review staff must constantly update their code knowledge and assist builders in meeting the most recent edition of these national codes, as adopted by the City and County of Broomfield.  Amendments are made to the published codes in order to address Broomfield's unique conditions, philosophies, and policies.  Along with the adoption of the 2009 International Codes, several changes were made to the Broomfield Municipal Code regarding swimming pools and swimming pool enclosures.  Please see this new ordinance for swimming pool information.

The City and County of Broomfield will be enforcing the 2011 NEC for all permits issued July 1, 2011 and later to coincide with the State of Colorado's effective date for this code.  See handout for residential electrical updates!
